Challenge:

Two large, multiple-throat sinkholes. An excavation contractor placed flowable fill in each location
with a 90′ boom pump to provide a cap on each sinkhole. After the threshold of 50 CY was pumped at each hole, and no observable filling was found, the on-site geo-tech engineer directed the work to be halted. An agent for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was concerned that flood water would contaminate the aquifer.

Solution:

After an emergency consultation including Hi-Tech, the geo-tech engineer and the excavation contractor, Hi-Tech contracted to inject urethane geo-polymer to plug sinkhole throats and contain the excavator’s concrete capping.
